Web Grids

Today we started to learn about web grids and how to make your website look neat and to an extent "correct"
These were not for our final website designs, but they were just to mock up quick ideas to get a feel of the grids and how to use them. Here are a couple of screen grabs on what I achieved.

Web Formats

HTML

HTML is short for Hypertext Markup Language. HTML is a code / language used to create and display webpages. It communicates with the web browser how to display a web page's words an images for the user.

CSS

CSS is short for Cascading Style Sheets CSS is designed mainly to enable the separation of document content from document presentation, including elements such as they layout, colours and fonts.

File Formats

.GIF

Pronounced giff .GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format, a bit-mapped graphics file format. This file  basically lets you save a sequence of frames to a single file which will play these frames. This basically let you save mini films or slides to view on the internet or on your Mac or PC.
Click the link below for an example of a .GIF:

.JPEG

Pronounced jay-peg .JPEG is short for Joint Photographic Experts Group. A .JPEG is a file that compresses a raw image to make the file size more manageable. However, you can compress it in such a way the image is no longer clear or legible, which will completely ruin your image (unless thats the style you want your image...). If you are working in Photoshop with layers, it will compress the layers down to a single layer, which you will lose when you open the image back up in Photoshop.
Click the link below for an example of the compression on which you can achieve with a .JPEG:

.PSD

.PSD is a file format created through the Adobe program Photoshop. It is a file format that keeps the original quality in which you are working. Unlike .jpeg, it also saves each and every layer down so when you open the file back up, nothing is compressed and you continue to have the freedom and quality.

Website Design Research - What I like about websites and Some of my favourite Designs & Layouts

This first website I found. I really enjoy the layout of the website.

http://soworldwide.org

This website was one of my favourites. I think this is because the layout is simple, there isn't too much going on and the photo quality and editing is amazing.

Minerva webiste again is hugely based on the photography. Not only is the photography amazing, the way the website works is amazing, the scroll function is totally unique and it gives it a really stylish feel.

I like how the website is black and white until you click the image and it comes up bigger in colour. Again it is very simplistic and effective.

http://chdmlr.com

I like the idea of the web content being boxed in like this with a image in the background. It looks nice and neat and easy to follow.

This is a great website. They use video to show you more of the product, and its full screen so it is a great spectacle to look at. If you was unsure about buying a Rolex, after seeing their website, you'll want one straight away, and thats exactly how a website aimed at selling a product should be.

This website has a bit of all the best bits from the previous websites, it has amazing photography, really letting the product shine and selling itself to you. It also has the boxed in content which again makes it really neat and easy to look at.

Finally, this is my favourite website that I have found. I love how its made to look like it's sat ontop of a table. I love the colours and how expensive everything looks. Great photography helps too.

Flash Buttons

Step 1:

Create a shape, preferably the shape of the button you want. Next click Modify > Convert to symbol.

Step 2:

Next, double click your shape, and it'll take you to this screen. Up, Over, Down and hit. Change the button to your desire for each motion.

Step 3:

Save the file and press CMD + ENTER to view your button.

Meeting

Unfortunately, I had to miss the trip to Borough Market. But the reason I had to miss it more than makes up for it!
I had my final meeting with the CMN guys, who I have been commissioned with 2 other close friends to design their website and code it. I have spent my entire summer designing and working with my friends to re create their website which can be found here:

http://www.canmakingnews.com

As you can see its really dated and busy. The one main feature that we had to include on the website was the adverts, working around these was very hard as they're hideously designed, lots of ugly colours and also they're big and everywhere!

But the meeting lasted for 3 hours and everything was successfully finished. I have learnt so much thought this experience, including how to behave in a business meeting situation, client communication, graphic skills when trying to create something I have not created before and working to a deadline.

Tonight Im having a meeting with my next client to design a website for a jewellery company, again, a product I have no experience in designing, but hope to use my skills and place them into this and gain more experience and learn new things.

HTML

Today I discovered a number of things about web design.
HTML is short for Hypertext Markup Language and I discovered how to create and edit basic HTML and CSS, such as Type colour, size and placement, adding images and links.

<h1> = Header.
<p> = Paragraph.
<imgsrc="Image source" /> = Insert and Image.

Uni Research

Looking at Unis and courses has made the desition even harder on what I want to do when the course has finished #headache

Aspirations

Today we started to think and work out where we want to be this time next year. Wether it was Uni, College HND, Full time work, Apprenticeship or a Gap year.
I know I would like to get into Image Manipulation, so my task today is to find out what courses are out there that specialise in this specific subject.
